Chiang Mai offers an ideal location for outdoor team building with easy access to a variety of adventure activities sure to both challenge and reward. Recently a corporate team from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia joined us for a weekend of awesome activities; from zip-lining at exciting speeds above the jungle canopy, to white water rafting along the pumping rapids of the Maetang river, to a day trekking through the northern forest overlooking Chiang Dao mountain and Maetang valley.
Saturday morning, the group of 38 were picked up from their 4-star city accommodation and transported by our fleet of vans to the wonderful Maetang district; from here the group would begin a day of ziplining and white water rafting in the rugged outdoors!
Ziplining was a new activity for the majority of the group but their nerves were soothed (somewhat) with a full safety briefing and practice cable where they could get a feel for ziplining (at only a short height above the ground). After a few practice runs, the group took a short walk through the jungle to the first platform where they took a leap of faith into their 2 hour zipline experience! Screams of joy and excitement could be heard throughout the jungle as each person pushed off the platforms to soar along cables varying in length from 20 to an amazing 400 meters. Upon reaching the final platform, everyone was in high spirits with adrenaline painting smiles on their faces.
The other equally exhilarating activity of the day, white water rafting, was a new experience for many as well which offered a different perspective of the natural surroundings. With the expertise of our team (who have been rafting the rivers of Northern Thailand for almost 30 years) the group launched onto the Maetang River to begin an adventurous few hours riding the rapids downstream. Of course, this was not until after a full safety briefing and demonstration at our base camp located beside the river. Rafting down the Maetang River offered an excellent opportunity to admire the surrounding nature and work together as a team to negotiate some powerful rapids with the leadership of highly trained rafting captains.
After a full-on day of outdoor activities, everyone was transferred to their boutique hotel accommodation where they could refresh and relax before a buffet Thai dinner.
“We had a fantastic time there, and it was great that the different activities were all within the same area. The safety briefings were well conducted, and everything was well organised. All we had to do was enjoy ourselves and that’s what we did. This team building weekend was definitely different than those we have done before.”
Sunday offered exceptional morning weather creating amazing views over Chiang Dao from the start point of the days hike. With an introduction of the area from our trekking guides, the entire group set off into the jungle following local trails up along mountain ridges, through tea & coffee plantations and below giant jungle trees. Along the way, we were rewarded with sweeping views of the valley and a cloud-covered Chiang Dao mountain.
Reaching our lunch spot at a local home-stay, everyone was pleased to rest their feet and enjoy some fresh fruits & Pad Thai freshly cooked by our hosts. After an hour of rest, some were more exhausted than others from the morning hike and opted to ride the support vehicle to the trek ending point; the rest of the group continued down steep jungle trails before arriving at a local Lahu hilltribe village where the transport vans were waiting.
Returning to the hotel, everyone could have a refreshing swim and/or massage to relieve their tired muscles. Before dinner, there was time for an hour or two of further team-building activities and then to end the evening a bonfire in the garden. Everyone was sure to sleep well after such an active day, and woke up rested for their return flight to Kuala Lumpur the following morning.
