With members of the Global Peace Foundation congregating in Chiang Mai, they decided to contact us about organising a fun and active day in the outdoors for their group. To avoid the peak temperatures of the day, we had an early start cycling in the beautiful Cholae Valley (north of Chiang Mai city) with a quick stop at one of Northern Thailand’s most magnificient temples, Wat Banden.
From the temple, Khing lead the group along off-road trails through rice fields, bamboo forests and small village alleyways with a stop at the local market to buy some fresh fruit.
Those who weren’t confident riding a bicycle could experience the same majestic scenery from the back of the support vehicle which was never far away from the group (and fully equipped with drinks and snacks).
After lunch at a restaurant nestled on the edge of the riverbank and then some local coffee/tea tasting at a homestay in the mountains, it was time to start the afternoon hike. At the higher elevation, temperatures were comfortable and giant jungle trees provided shade along most of the local trail. With dry leaves creating some slippery, downhill adventure there were many laughs and shrieks on the way down the mountain ridge.
Making their way through the relatively dense jungle, the group emerged at a local Lahu village where the transfer vehicles were waiting by a gigantic banyan tree, a sight which amazed and everyone did their best to capture the sheer size of this beast of nature!
