Trekking the Golden Triangle
Additional information
During this trip, you will have the opportunity to see and visit:
Ban Thaton, departure for the boat trips down the Maekok River
Mae Sai (Thailand’s northernmost point)
The city of Chiang Rai, where we spend a night
The Golden Triangle area
Chiang Saen, the ancient Capital city of Lanna Kingdom
If you are not on tight schedule, we recommend to add one day to this trip, either on your own, or part of our guided tour program (see below).
What to bring
First, do not bring too many luggage. You can always leave some at your hotel or at our office in Chiang Mai. it’s better to travel light. We find it very useful to have a small sturdy back pack, which can be used everyday during the visits, and can be used during the short trekking part of this trip. You would want light cotton or clothing, a long trouser for the village night, especially during the cool season. As usual, a pair of sunglasses, a hat and some sun cream.
Spend an extra day at the Golden Triangle!
Add a day and spoil yourself spending a night at the infamous Golden Triangle. We recommend the Anantara Resort for the best accommodation around, or the Imperial Golden Triangle Hotel, ActiveThailand’s partner hotel. Fore more information on hotel and accommodation at the Golden Triangle and all over Thailand, look at our selection on Asia-Hotel-Direct website.
With an extra day at the Golden Triangle your visit will be more relax, with more visit and shopping time at the Golden Triangle area. We recommend also a boat trip on the Mekong river, where the three countries meet at the confluence of the mighty Mekong and the small Ruak river.
