Itinerary

Day 1: Chiang Mai - Thaton
Experience a "soft adventure" in the valley just outside Chiang Mai at Chiangdao Elephant Camp, where you will see an elephant training show. Experience a fun elephant ride through the surrounding jungle. After lunch, proceed by car further north to explore the rock formation of Chiangdao caves, and continue to Ban Thaton, a small village close to the Burmese border. Overnight at a hotel.

Day 2 - Thaton - Doi Tung - Maesai - Chiang Rai
In the morning, take a 3 hour boat trip down the Maekok river to reach Chiang Rai.

After lunch take the scenic mountain road leading to Doi Tung. Stop at small villages along the way -- the surrounding area is home to many hill tribe peoples. Visit Doi Tung Royal Villa and Garden. Continue to Mae Sai, on the Thai-Myanmar Border. Visit the bustling border market, optional, crossing the border to visit the Burmese town of Thachilek (subject to border opening). Then drive to Chiang Rai and transfer to your hotel.

Day 3 - Chiang Rai - Golden Triangle - Chiang Mai
Travel by car to Chiangsaen, former capital of the Lanna Kingdom. Then explore the famous "Golden Triangle" where three borders meet, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. Visit the interesting Opium Museum and ancient temple on the hill overlooking the Mekong River. Then return by road to Chiang Mai arriving at the end of the afternoon. Transfer to hotel or airport.
