Pai River Rafting trip 2 days, departure from Pai
Additional information:
This trip is operated by Thai Adventure Rafting, first and leading white water rafting commercial operator in Thailand. Our raft captains will handle professionally all aspects of your trip. They will be happy to answer any question you may have and share with you their knowledge of nature and traditions of the Mae Hong Son province.
Overnight at our Riverside Jungle Camp, in harmony with the nature!
A night spent at our jungle camp will give you the opportunity to explore the pristine nature of the Mae Hong Son hills. Bamboo huts fully equipped with sleeping bags, foam camping mattresses and mosquito nets will keep you in harmony with the environment. Simple, clean toilets and showers will also contribute to your comfortable stay. Beer is available at our jungle camp.
During the raft trip
Travel light!
We must keep the weight down on the rafts, therefore all participants are required to carry a minimum of personal luggage. A standard size plastic bag will be given at the briefing for your personal belonging to take on the boats. Each bag is labelled and then inserted in our sturdy dry bags. This limits the amount of weight on the rafts! All your remaining personal items will be safely kept at our Pai office and transferred to the arrival point on the following day if you are not coming back to Pai. See our suggested packing list below.
Meals and beverages
All food and drinking water is provided during the trip. You are welcome to take your own sweets or crisps if you want, as long as it fits in your personal bag. At the camp beer is available for sale.

Getting to Pai town, to join our rafting trip
- From Chiangmai
- Public bus to Pai (4 hours from “Arcade Bus Station”). 4 bus departures per day, last one leaving at 4pm.
- Join departures by air-conditioned van to Pai (3 hour’s drive) operated by Aya Services or Prempracha, can be arranged by our office. Price is approximately 300 baht/person, one way. Please inquiry.
- If you intend to start the rafting trip from Pai, you must be in Pai the night before departure.
- Return back to Chiangmai
- By plane from Mae Hong Son. This short 35 minutes flight back to Chiangmai is now operated by Nok Air.
(NokAir is partly owned by Thai Airways). Nok Air operates two flights per day: flight DD 8203 depart 10.55 arrive Chiangmai at 11.30 and flight DD 8209 depart 16.10 arrive Chiangmai at 16.45 (This flight can be taken after the end of the rafting trip, in order to get back to Chiangmai the same day)
Please check with us, or check the schedule on NokAir website (www.nokair.com) for latest updates.
- Private car/minibus (5 to 6 hour’s driving time, on a winding mountain road via Mae Sarieng). Our office can arrange this transportation. More details in Mae Hong Son loop section.
- Local Bus (8 hours). There is day and night buses. On the day ending the rafting trip, a night bus would depart around 8pm and arrive in the early morning in Chiangmai (5am or so). That would be exhausting and perhaps ruining the rafting trip experience. We recommend to spend a night in Mae Hong Son and take a day bus the following day.
Suggested Packing List
While on the rafts:
Wear a T-shirt, short or long. Wear sandals or water shoes. Bring waterproof sun-cream.
At the camp:
T-shirt or shirt, trouser or short, sandals or flip-flops, 1 towel & toilet kit, mosquito repellent, 1 flashlight. During the “cold” season (December and January) please take a fleece and long pant.
Traveling with children
Many of our participants are traveling with their children. Usually we recommend to be 12 years old and above, and have good swimming skills. However this is not a strict rule, and it depends of the water level. During the raining season, with high water levels (July-September) we have to use caution. Let us know the age of your children when sending us your ‘tour request’.
Safety first
For all participants, we ask you to be in good physical condition, and be able to swim. Particular attention to be made during the raining season with potentially high water levels (July-September).
If you need further information, do not hesitate to send us an e-mail.
Have a fun trip!
