Whether it’s atop calm lakes or flowing rivers, kayaking allows participants to venture deeper into the remote and natural environment of Northern Thailand.

Kayaking in the Chiang Mai Area

Kayaking is becoming an increasingly popular way to experience the Chiang Mai region and other parts of Northern Thailand. As one of the leading adventure tour operators in Northern Thailand, Active Thailand organises a number of lake paddling tours and can create customized tours on a variety of rivers including Maekok and Pai rivers. Safety is our priority so all of our team are trained under the BCU (British Canoe Union) standards.

Sit-on-top kayaks

We use a fleet of double and single “ocean-kayak” sit-on-top, as well as the locally made “feel free” kayaks. These kayaks are molded with air-chambers inside making them strong,

sturdy, and almost unsinkable. Sit-on-tops are very easy to maneuver and paddle and seating two people makes them perfect for families. Our regular trips are organized on lakes which offer sheltered areas with no waves or strong currents, making this a suitable place for beginners.

Mae Ngat Dam, Sri Lanna National Park

Our favorite kayaking spot is the Mae Ngat Dam, which is part of the Sri Lanna National Park. Here you will find beautiful scenery as well as a number of floating bungalows great for a lunch stop or overnight stay. We also provide touring kayaks for the more experienced paddlers who want to paddle deeper into the lake.

Customised tours

Depending on the season, we can organize kayak tours tailored to your specific requirements either at the lake or some of Northern Thailand’s wonderful rivers; Maekok, Pai or the remote Nam Wah. Simply contact us with your group size and requirements, then we can provide a sample program.
