Guided visit to the handicrafts centers on Borsang and Sankampeng road
Trip overview
Handicrafts in Northern Thailand have been known for decades. Here we can find fine people that works on crafts from generation. They are usually working on wood, silverware, painting, making umbrellas and more. Today theses crafts are blending old traditional style and modern designs, appearing very popular amongst foreign visitors.
Some of the main crafts and shops you will visit:
SILK: On the Borsang road, you will find a few traditional silk manufacturers and displays of the processing of the silk, from raw silk to weaving process.
UMBRELLA MAKING : Borsang, Chiangmai’s famous umbrella and fan making. Hand-painted fans, umbrellas and other decorative items are made of “Sa” paper, with many designs and colors.
SILVERWARE : Many of the silver markets are on the Sankampaeng Road. Traditional items such as trays, bowls, boxes and much more are made on-sites.
GEM GALLERY: The world’s biggest jewelery store. Not so much of a handicraft, but a massive factory. Quality guaranteed at this huge and well stocked shop. If you fancy some fine crafted jewelry at great prices, we can make a stop at Gem Gallery also.
Chiangmai province and north Thailand have been reputed to have fine crafstmen for many generations. Today most shops or factories are located on the Borsang – Sankhampeng road, a popular tourist destination.
The tour program
Morning Tour from 08.30 to 12.30.
Afternoon Tour from 13.30 to 17.30.
Meet at your hotel with your guide and transfer by air-conditioned vehicle to the Sankampeng and Borsang umbrella villages. Visit local handicraft manufacturers and craft shops and see the process of making fine design on woodcarving, Thai silk, umbrella painting, ceramics and more. Return back to your hotel.
